Melt the butter over a low-medium heat, pour in the milk and oil and mix together. Remove from the heat.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, the sugar, baking powder and salt using a fork. Form a well in the centre, pour in the butter mixture and gradually combine until a thick dough forms.
Using your hands, roll the dough into little flat balls and with your thumb, press a hole in the middle of each doughnut.
Heat some oil in a pan, it will be hot enough when a little bit of bread goes brown and floats to the top.
Gently lay the doughnuts in the oil, fry for 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Place the doughnuts onto some kitchen paper to soak up any excess oil and leave to cool.
Mix the icing sugar and milk/water together, add colouring and mix, dip each doughnut into the icing, add sprinkles and top with a dried rose bud. Leave to set.
Now this is a winter warming, cosy soup for the soul!
